Formal Education Course

The Formal Eduction Course is protected teaching time and runs weekly on a Wednesday during term time and is a mix of online lectures and face to face teaching on the Hamilton Campus. Trainees from Bay of Plenty and Lakes travel to attend these face to face teaching days which are compulsory.
The course is broken into the 3 RANZCP stages and follows the curriculum for each stage. The stage 1 course lasts for 1 year and is a mixture of oline learning modules, online lectures and face to face teaching. It covers basic psychiatry including the skills of history taking, mental state and phrenomenology. Stage 2 lasts 2 years and trainees learn more about the specialities in psychiatry. There is a seperate stage 3 course and those in certificate training will have further teaching in their chosen fields.In addition, all stages join together for peer group support and Balint group teaching.
